2008 TRI-STATE WOODCARVERS COMPETITION


The competition is open to woodcarvers at any level of skill.  There are two (2) classifications of competition: 1) Amateur 2) Open.

CLASSIFICATIONS:

AMATEUR: For carvers with novice and intermediate skills. Amateur carvers may choose to enter the higher classification.

OPEN: For carvers with advanced skills.

Each carver will choose which classification to enter; however, the Show Committee has the right to move carvings to a different classification or category.

CATEGORIES:


1.    Relief Carving: - Carvings of any subject done on a flat surface.

2.    Caricature Carving: - Carvings in exaggerated or comical form.

3.    Seminar or Assisted Carving: - Carvings from seminars or assisted by another carver.

4.    Realistic: - Carvings of humans and animals in realistic proportions (except birds). 

5.    Birds: - Includes all types of birds: water-fowl, birds of prey, song birds, etc.

6.    Group Carving: - Carvings of 3 or more pieces in a group setting, with or without a base.

7.    Christmas Carving: - Any carving with a Christmas motif.

8.    Marine Life: - Any carving of aquatic species.

9.    Miniature Carving: - Any carving that will fit in a 2" cube.

10.   Miscellaneous: - Any carvings not covered above-canes, flowers, dolls, intarsia, woodburnings, stylized, etc.

Show and Competition Procedures/Guidelines:

1.    Each member of the Tri-State Woodcarvers will be entitled to use one (1) table for every ten (10) tickets they sell, to show and /or sell their carvings/equipment.  Tables must be reserved in advance. Non-member cost is twenty-five ($25.00) dollars per table.

2.    All tables MUST remain set up until 4:00 pm Sunday.   If you must leave early make arrangements to leave your carvings.  Anyone leaving early will not be invited back next year.
   
3.    Upon registration, each carving entered will be assigned a unique number, which will be used during competition.  The name of the carver must not be visible on the carving.

4.    All entries must have been carved since November 1, 2007.

5.    You may enter only one piece per category.

6.    All registrations must be received by November 21, 2008 to be eligible. All carvings registered for competition must be at the judging site by 10:00 am on Saturday.

7.    This is a two-day show; please leave competing carvings on the judging tables until Sunday at 12:00 noon.

Awards:
Ribbons will be given for the first three (3) places in each category and classification.  Ribbons will be awarded in every category with entries, regardless of the number of entrants in that category.

Peoples Choice:
The public will be invited to select from the carvings in competition that, in their opinion, represents the finest all-around carving entered in the competition.  Voting will close at 4:30pm, Saturday.

President’s Award:
The President of the Tri-State Woodcarvers Club will select the table or booth display that she believes contributes the most to the enhancement of the show and to the advancement of woodcarving.

Best of Show:
The judges will select from the "Best of Class" trophy-winning carvings from the two classifications, the carving that, in their opinion, represents the finest all-around carving entered in the competition.
