MEETING OF THE TRI-STATE WOODCARVERS’ CLUB

April 8, 2008 at 4H Center, Evansville, IN

Call to order: The meeting was called to order by Chris Lafferty, President at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. Chris also welcomed a new member, Gerald Feth to the meeting.

Secretary’s Report: The combined minutes and newsletter was received by all and accepted as sent.

Treasurer’s Report: Don Deutsch gave the treasurer’s report. To date we have 36 paid members. Don has requested that other members bring dues to the May meeting so that the Club Roster can be compiled.

Library Report: No report

Show Committee Report: Linda Allen gave the Show Committee report and told the group that Debbe Edwards was going to be the Judge at our Show and that she would give a seminar for two evenings at Seton Residence following the show. These would be Monday, November 24 and Tuesday, November 25. Time and cost to be given later. Debbe prefers teaching the whole class the same carving. Those attending the seminar will decide from a selection that Debbe will send prior to the class.

The snack bar will be manned by the Boy Scouts.

Our Charity again will be the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center. Money from the Carvings for Charity will be given to them. Carvings can be given to Kathy Vonderahe.

We will also have hand carved flags for a donation of $10. This project is called Operation Home Front. The proceeds will go to help the Amory ship items to our troops.

We are again carving ornaments to decorate a Christmas tree and wreath (maybe two of them if we can get enough ornaments). Sherri Egan, Mary Purtzer, and Nicole Nadeau are in charge of this. Blanks for ornaments can be secured from them. Please bring your finished ornaments to them.

Linda asked the group what Celebrity Carvers she should request carvings from. A few names mentioned were Debbe Edwards, Steve Brown and Ken Alvey. Ideas for Celebrity Carvers can be given to Linda.

The show Committee will be on Saturday, April 26 at 9:30AM at Alvey’s.

Chris reminded the group that there will be a Woodcarving Seminar at

Seton on Saturday, April 12 from 9.m. to 5 p.m. This seminar will be

given by Peg Cawthorn. Cost is $60 for the seminar. Sister Anthony will

put signs up at the gate directing cars to the carving place and in the halls

to direct people to the classroom.

Chris asked for ideas for seminars. Some members suggested that we contact Stu Martin about a seminar. John Englert was also mentioned. He is a relief carver and also known for his painting. Steve Brown will do a seminar in September. Date and place not yet confirmed. Rick Jensen is willing to do a seminar and will charge $50 per day. Ken Alvey will do a seminar using rotary equipment. The subject will be a blue bird. Cost, place, and the tools necessary will be given later.

At our Meeting night in May we are asked to work on flags –either carve or paint them. Please bring your own supplies. We would like to do Face Study sticks in June. Maybe Marvin Daniels or Tony Kirtz would do these.

Chris mentioned that she still has shirts to sell and wondered if anyone would be interested in a vest to sell. We can get the logo put on different items.

Chris also told the members that a group is getting together in Vincennes the first Wednesday of each month at 3rd and Main in the Shirley and Company Ceramics to carve.

Bob Johnson mentioned that on Wednesday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Temple on Lincoln Avenue there will a presentation of the " Poetry of Fine Wood Carving".

The Half Pot was won by Neil Ward.

Adjournment and next meeting: There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m. The next meeting is May 13, 2008.

Open carving at Ken Alvey’s April 26th 9-?

Respectfully submitted,

Sister Anthony, Secretary
