MINUTES FROM THE AUGUST 14, 2007 MEETING
Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:40 PM by Chris Lafferty, President.
Secretary’s Report: The secretary, Sister Anthony, could not attend. The minutes were accepted as written.
Treasurer’s Report: Don Deutsch gave the treasurer’s report and it was accepted as given.
Library Report: Doug Lafferty mentioned that wood was for sale from the library.
Show Committee Report: Steve Oliver will have the tickets available to pass out at the next meeting. Letters for advertisers were available for members to take, along with flyers. He asked that members sell business card sized ads for the program at $25 each. The floor plan was available to add names for table selection. Steve Eli has donated a tree for the ornaments that are being carved by members. He asked for members to donate items for Carvings for Charity and ornaments for the tree. The next Show Committee meeting will be Saturday, September 8th at 10 AM at Seton Residence. Any member is welcome to attend.
Old Business:
The following seminars are scheduled:
Steve Oliver – September 1 & possibly 2 - $30 for a day or $50 for two days plus roughout
Marvin Daniels – September 15 & 16 - $50 plus roughout
Steve Brown – October 27 & 28 - $75 plus roughout
Jon Nelson – November 26 & 27 - $60 plus roughout
Jon Nelson requests that we select the roughout we want ahead of time to be sure he has an adequate supply. His roughouts can be viewed at www.jonnelsonwoodcarving.com Please tell Chris Lafferty the selection that you want. Also contact Chris or Sister Anthony to sign up for any of the seminars.
Scheduled classes for meeting nights:
September 11 – Kerry Austin – bark carving
October 9 – Bob Bruce – chip carving
Sister Anthony will bring her activities director to an upcoming meeting to give a presentation on setting up table displays for the show.
Chris had the T shirts with the club name available for members who had ordered them. She has some extras. Cost is $10.60. Please contact her if you want one. She said our logo can also be put on an apron or bag. Let her know if you are interested.
New Business:
Steve Oliver had a tip for transferring patterns to wood. The directions are as follows:
Scan in the pattern
Reverse the pattern on your computer
Print the reversed pattern on an acetate sheet
Immediately (within several minutes) press the acetate on the wood to make the pattern impression

Steve Brown gave the club information on seminars to be conducted at Evart, Michigan on June 6-14, 2008. The first four days will be with one instructor at a cost of $170. The next four days a different instructor can be chosen each day. Steve said that 600-700 carvers are expected. He has a link on his website for more information. We had an "old" member, Jasper Marshall, rejoin the club this evening.
Some beautiful carvings were displayed in the "Show and Tell" part of the meeting. Several of the items were donated either for Carvings for Charity or ornaments for the tree.
The half pot was won by Bruce Allen.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15PM.

Notes from the President.
I will bring T-Shirts to the meeting Tuesday. We have several available for purchase. The cost is $10.60 per shirt.
****We have to know by Tuesday’s meeting if you plan to attend Marvin Daniels carving seminar on the 15th and 16th of Sept. Payment of $50 is due upon signing up Tuesday.****
Anyone interested in being chair of the nomination committee and or being on the nomination committee please let me know ASAP. Elections need to take place Nov. meeting.
