Kathy VonderaheKathy started woodcarving in the summer of 2001. She had always been fascinated by wood carvers, but had no idea that she would be able to carve. When visiting some friends who carve in Indianapolis, she decided to start reading about carving and possibly try chip carving. She visited the local Woodcraft Store and received lots of encouragement from the employees there, so she took a face carving class from Tony Kirtz. Then she met with a friend, Bob Koressel, who gave her several private lessons. She joined the Tri-State Woodcarvers Club and attended some of their seminars. Although she has done many crafts throughout her life, wood carving has brought a greater satisfaction than anything else she has done.
Kathy and her husband, Larry, live on the West Side of Evansville. They have two children and six grandchildren. Larry is retired and Kathy works part time as an assistant for an insurance agent/investment broker. Kathy was treasurer of the Wood Carving Club for three years and is a member of the Show Committee.
As a friend told her when she started carving---"the world would be a better place if there were more whittlers than chiselers!"
