MEETING OF THE TR-STATE WOODCARVERS’ CLUB

Call to order: Chris called the meeting to order: Several members absent (weather)

Secretary’s Report: Omitted, due to Sister Anthony absence.

Treasurer’s Report: Don Deutsch absent

Library report: Opened by Doug, remind everyone that we have wood for sell!

Show Committee: Linda Allen, the 2008 Show Committee Chair, discussed again the show date. Several members absent this meeting due to weather. Linda asked the members present this evening if they wanted to continue to have the Show on the weekend after Thanksgiving. There was a possibility that we could have the Amory on the weekend before Thanksgiving. The reason for this was that members as well as exhibitors and vendors find it difficult to be away from family celebrations at this time. Another consideration was that the Hadi Circus is in the adjacent Roberts Stadium the same weekend. Does this contribute to our success or do people who might come to the Show go to the circus instead? Linda will again bring this issue up to the show committee at their first meeting of the year. Other items were discussed for the show such as things liked about the past show and things disliked about last show.

Peg Cawthorn will be teaching a class in Woodburning Saturday April 12^th 8-5 at Seton Hall. The cost will be $60 a person. We need 7 to sign up for the event to make it happen. Peg has been at our show the past two years she does a great job. Her husband Jim is a woodcarver. You will need a woodburner for this class. Peg will be able to sell you one but she needs to know as soon as possible if you need one so she can order them. She uses Nibsburner units. You can go online to view these products at http://www.nibsburner.com/systems_main.htm . They vary in prices. If you cannot afford one maybe someone in the club has one that you could borrow for the class.

Is there anyone that has a woodburner who does not plan to take Peg’s class and would not mind if someone in the club borrows yours for the day? If so please let Chris know so we can make arrangements to get it from you.

Please consider signing up to TEACH a class this year at a meeting PLEASE! Each of us has something to offer and share.

Next Meeting: The next meeting is February 12^th at 6:00 It was agreed at the meeting that for the next carving time in February we will be carving items for St. Patrick’s, Valentine’s and Easter. If anyone has basswood eggs that they would like to bring and donate please do so. Also if you have any cut out’s like ornaments in the shape of an item that would go for these holidays’s please let Chris know.
