This month the Newsletter is being sent in its original format from Sister Anthony as requested. I have added comments in a couple of places which have the heading to the left side as stated Comment from the president. I hope this helps everyone out. Thanks and see you next month, Chris J

MEETING OF THE TRI-STATE WOODCARVERS’ CLUB

JUNE 12, 2007 AT THE 4 H CENTER

6:00 to 7:30 p.m. carving

7:30 to 8:30 meeting

Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by Chris Lafferty, President

Secretary’s Report: The minutes were accepted as sent. Chris said that in the future she will add

things after the minutes instead of sending out a Newsletter.

Treasurer’s Report: Don Deutsch gave the treasurer’s report. A deposit is being made this

coming week to the Armory for our reservation for the Show.

Library Report: Doug Lafferty mentioned that there is a supply of wood for sale.

Show Committee: Steve Oliver gave the report. Invitations for the Show are being sent to

exhibitors. Steve hopes to have a floor plan for members to reserve their table at

the July meeting. The next Show Committee will be held on Saturday, July 7 at

10 a.m. at Seton Residence. Linda Allen will keep the ornaments and Kathy

Vonderahe will keep the Carvings for Charity. Donations of items can be given to

them at any meeting.

Future Seminars: Marvin Daniels will hold a seminar on Sept. 15 & 16 at Seton Residence

beginning at 9 a.m. Cost is $50 plus the rough out. Steve Brown will hold a

seminar on Oct.27&28. Cost is $75 plus the rough out. This also will be held at

Seton.

We will again be doing carving on Monday, June 25 at Seton for whoever wants

to come.

Comments from the president: PLEASE don’t forget that for the next 2 meetings July and August each member is to bring a Christmas ornament to carve (or an item that you are currently working on that you might need help with) to the scheduled carving time prior to the meeting. We do not have any featured teachers for these months. It was great to see everyone working on items at the last meeting along with visiting with each other. J

New Business: Steve Oliver asked if the Sharpener that is now being housed at Seton could be

brought to the 4H Center. Steve is also looking into buying a grinder to keep at

the Center if we can’t arrange for the sharpener to be brought there. It either

needs to be placed on the top of our Library cabinet or in some cabinet space.

Chris will see what can be had at the Center. The moving of the sharpener will

have to be arranged. It can be picked up at Seton any day but Sister Anthony or

Sister Josita should be notified before the pick-up.

COMMENTS FROM PRESIDENT - UPDATE ON MOVING SHARPENER----I talked with Rita at the 4-H center regarding the need for a place to keep the sharpener at the 4-H center. Rita stated that she had some concerns about the placement of another cabinet next to the current one due to their need of storage for the current chairs and other 4-H center items in the closet (storage room). I suggest that Steve Oliver and Dick Bitter who agreed to move the sharpener supply Rita with some definite measurements of an additional cabinet and or take the table that we want to use to the center so she can see how it would work. She stated we could try it, but I felt that she would prefer we did not take up more space. Does anyone have any input (ideas/discussion) that they would like to share? Steve how much would a grinder cost the club and do we have the space to store one? If we buy a new grinder we need to take a vote for the purchase at one of the next 2 meetings. We will also need to elect someone or if someone would like to volunteer to transfer the sharpener in the future back and forth from the 4-H center to Seton hall for seminars.

Some of the members wanted to know about our Web site which is being moved.

It was suggested we no longer send minutes by e-mail but that we access them

through the web site. There was discussion on this and a motion to do this which

had been made by Steve Oliver was with-drawn by him. The subject was tabled

until we can give more thought to this. We also need to take into consideration

those members who do not have a computer.

Comments from president: As we discussed at the meeting we are asking members who have internet service to please log onto our website to see how well you can access it. The address is www.tristatewoodcarvers.com I went to the site and was able to access it ok (sometimes I know with dial-up service which I have it can take awhile if there are pictures etc. added). I know that Neil and Steve Oliver have been working on getting the site switched to a different provider so items are not up to date. I will forward this newsletter on to Neil and ask him to get it uploaded as soon as possible so we can check out this month’s newsletter and hopefully updates on the show information (Steve can you please forward any information about the show to Neil so he can add to the site?) and seminars (currently listed in this newsletter, but Neil can you please add to the site?). Please be ready to give feedback at the July meeting so we can take a vote as to how everyone would like to receive the newsletter information. We currently have 15 members who receive the information via regular mail each month all remaining members receive via emails.

Chris Lafferty read a notice from the Pike County Commission for Arts

Promotion and Education that is hosting an exhibit of original 2 & 3 dimensional

work in all media for all ages on July 20-22 at the Pike Central High School. If

interested please phone Dave at 766-0287.

Kathy Vonderahe donated 3 Shipley bear blanks which will be kept until someone

carves them for Carving for Charity

Visitor: We had a visitor this evening who is Ken Alvey. Ken has been carving for 2 years

and carves birds.

The half pot was won by Bruce Allen

Adjournment: There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted:

Sister Anthony, Secretary
