MEETING OF THE TRI-STATE WOODCARVERS’ CLUB
May 13, 2008 at 4 H Center, Evansville, IN
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday May 13, 2008 by
Kathy Vonderahe, Vice-president.
Secretary’s Report: Sister Anthony mentioned that there was an error in the minutes of
April 8 in the Show Committee Report on Seminar dates with Debbe
Edwards. Seminar will be given the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
after our November show or December 1,2 and 3 in the evening.
Minutes were accepted with this correction.
Treasurer’s Report: Don Deutsch gave the treasurer’s report. He said that this evening
he was closing the Roster for 2008 and asked members who had not paid
to pay this evening or to see him.
Library Report: No report
Show Committee Report: Linda Allen gave this report. She said that Debbe Edwards
will be the judge at the show and will present a seminar three evenings
following the show. The cost for the seminar is $100 plus the cost of
the roughout. Everyone who takes this seminar must carve the same
thing. There are pictures of the three possible carvings at the front table.
Majority rules.
We will have two vendors this year; they are…. The Woodchip Shop
from DesMoines, Iowa and Boxes N Such from North Royalton, Ohio.
Linda asked the members to support these businesses as that is the
reason that they come.
Linda needs a volunteer to Chair the Judging Committee. She will
order the ribbons and trophies so that this person will only need to
collect the registrations, set up the Competition Table, assist the
judge and count the results of People’s Choice award at the Show.
Mary Purtzer, Sheri Eagan and Nicole Nadeau have been working hard
on cutting blanks for ornaments. Volunteers are needed to paint them.
We need at least 120 ornaments for the tree and a wreath or two.
Linda encouraged the members to carve flag pins. These will be sold
during the show and the proceeds will go to Operation Support on the
Home Front which help the Armory to ship goods to the service people
and helps their families here in the tri-state area. The goal is to sell 100
pins at $10 each resulting in a $1000 donation to the Armory.
Steve Oliver reminded the group that for a couple of years past some
club members did a joint carving of a scene, i.e. crib set, county fair, etc.
He is suggesting that we do a crib scene with about 15 pieces. Sister
Anthony will check on available dates at Seton and will present it at the
next club meeting.
Volunteers needed for Shows. We have been asked for volunteers to do
carving at the 4 H fair the end of July. Ken Alvey, Kerry Austin and
Elvin Reed volunteered for this. We have also been asked for volunteers
for the Pike County Arts Fair in October. There is also an opportunity
for carvers at the Southern Indiana Antique Fair in June.
NEXT SHOW COMMITTEE MEETING: June 12th 6:30 p.m. at Seton Hall
Carving seminars: Ken Alvey will do a power tool bird carving seminar
on Saturday, May 17 at his place starting at 9 a.m. Ken was asked about
the possibility of coming after lunch for those who cannot come in the
morning. Ken was agreeable to this. He said that it will take several
sessions to complete this carving.
In June Marvin Daniels will do face sticks and in September, Steve
Brown will do something. Mary Purtzer asked that we paint ornaments
in July.
The half pot was won by Bob Johnson. Thank you Kathy for the
cookies.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Sister Anthony, Secretary
