MINUTES OF TRI-STATE WOODCARVERS' CLUB

August 11, 2009 4 H Center

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Neil Ward, President.

Minutes of previous meeting:

The minutes were put on our web site and were approved as sent.

Treasurer's Report:

Don Deutsch gave the report. Kathy Vonderahe gave an explanation of the Sister Josita Fund for the benefit of the new members and as a reminder to old members. The report was approved as presented. Don Deutsch will try to get a roster out by the next meeting. A copy was given out about two meetings ago but many members do not have one.

Library Committee:

Kerry Austin reported that he is working on a new check out system for the library to make getting and returning a book or an item easier. He would like to know if anything from the library is out at the present time. Books can be kept for 3 months. Kerry is looking for a separate container for wood.

Show Committee:

This committee met at Seton on Thursday, July 23, 2009

Neil reported that forms for placing ads in the show program are available. These forms plus other show information was emailed to members with email addresses. Hard copies are available for those without email addresses. The business card size card is the least expensive ad. We hope to have our show tickets ready for distribution at the September meeting.

We are also looking into getting another chain saw carver for the Show.

The place for our banquet has not been decided. Steve Oliver suggested the Golden Corral. They will give us a room. However, alcoholic drinks are not served there. We also have been in contact with another restaurant but will have to check further regarding the accommodations.

Our next Show Committee meeting will be held on Thursday, September 3 at 6 PM at Seton.

We have a 6 1/2 foot tree and will need at least 140 ornaments. We would like for our members to try and bring their carved ornaments in by the October meeting.

We are also in need of carvings for Carvings for Charity.

Old Business:

Two seminars are set for August. One is on Saturday, August 15 from 9 - 5 p.m. given by Phil Kruzick. Each participant will be given two ornaments as part of the $30 seminar fee. Other ornaments will be available for sale.

The other seminar is set for Saturday, August 29 at Seton by Peg Cawthorne. This will be on woodburning. Participants may bring wood and their own picture if they choose. Woodburners will be available for those who want to purchase them at $160 but they must advise Peg that they need them in advance of the seminar. Wood and pictures will be supplied for those who do not bring their own.

New Business:

Members were informed that in October the Renegade Round Up will be held. Steve Brown will be one of the instructors.

In Breemen, Indiana between August 20 and 23 there will be seminars held. They will run about 8 hours daily. Steve Brown, Marvin Daniels, and Steve Oliver will be instructors. Between 100-200 participants are expected. Participants need to pay for the roughouts but no fees will be charged for the class.

Seminars:

Steve Eli will lead a 6 to 7:30 p.m. seminar on drawing for our Tuesday, September 8, meeting. Ruth Oakley, General Manager, Blick Art Materials will speak after Steve’s seminar.

Half Pot:

The half pot was won by Tom Brink.

Adjournment:

There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

The next meeting is September 8, 2009

Respectfully submitted:

Sister Anthony, Secretary
