MINUTES OF TRI-STATE WOODCARVERS CLUB

August 9, 2011 4 H Center

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Steve Oliver, President. We started with a presentation by Jules Bouillet, nationally know artist.

Steve thanked Jules for his presentation and for the pins that Jules gave to each of the members.

Minutes of previous meeting:

Sister Anthony referred the members to the club website and asked for any additions or corrections. Hearing none, the minutes were approved by the membership.

Treasurer's Report:

Helen Alvey gave the treasurer's report which was accepted by the members as given.

Library Report:

Kerry Austin said that there was not a special report at this time. However he reminded the members to check the web page for books, etc available in our library.

Show Committee:

The Show Committee will meet at Seton on August 20. At this time we are still looking for a wood vendor. Steve Brown is attending a show this week and will be try to see if he can locate someone. If no one is found, Steve Oliver suggested that we purchase some wood at the Dayton or Belleville Shows to sell at our show.

We are still in need for ornaments for our tree and carvings for "Carving for Charity". We have a Judge for the show and he is Jules Bouillet. Steve Oliver said that Chris Lafferty would donate a tree if we need one.

Check the website for competition information. Competition entries must be in by November 1, 2011. There will be a money prizes this year. See the website for details.

Old Business:

Some of the members will jointly carve a nativity scene. Obtain a roughout for this from Steve Oliver. Jack Winkelman provided the roughouts. When the carving is completed, it should not be stained or painted. We are not planning on selling this nativity but will continue to add to it each year.

New Business:

None

Seminars:

We are having a carving seminar with Steve Oliver on August 13th to carve ornaments. Seminar begins at 9 a.m. at Seton Residence. On Sunday, August 14th we will paint the ornaments that we carved. Steve Eli will lead the painting seminar. The Sister Josita Fund will pay for the cost of the instructors. The only cost to the participants will be for the roughouts. Steve Oliver thought we could each complete several ornaments with the hope that each person will donate one of them to the show for our tree.

On August 27 and 28 we will have profile carving with Steve Oliver at Seton Residence.
This seminar begins at 9 a.m. Please have a picture of the profile of the person that you will carve into Steve Oliver by August 25.
