MINUTES OF TRI-STATE WOODCARVERS' CLUB

January 12, 2010 - 4 H Center

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order by Neil Ward at 7:30 p.m. Because of the new members and some returning old members Neil had each person introduce themselves.

Minutes of previous meeting:

There were no formal minutes from our December get together. Neil did give the names of the elected offices: Neil Ward- President, Mary Purtzer- Vice-president, Helen Alvey- Treasurer. Sister Anthony- Secretary, Library-Kerry Austin, Show Chairmen- Joel Slaton and Kerry Austin.

Treasurer's Report:

Helen Alvey gave the treasurer's report. She was happy to tell the membership that the Annual Show ended in the black this year. The treasurer's report was accepted as given.

Library Committee:

Kerry Austin reported that we have wood available for sale. He would like to know if the members want anything for the library and if so to let him know. Debbe Edwards donated a painted casting of the rabbit that some of the members did at the last seminar

Show Committee:

The Show Committee will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday January 23 at Seton Residence.

Old Business:

A report was given by Joel Slaton and Kerry Austin about the Meeting Place for 2010. The report is as follows:

We can continue to have the room at 4H for $90 We can use a room at the Armory for $50 however the room is smaller and there is no place for the Library. It is also carpeted. Ken Alvey's place is open to us but this would entail too much work to get it ready so it was not even considered

After some discussion and consideration a motion was made and seconded that we stay at the 4H Center. Vote was unanimous to stay.

New Business:

Steve Oliver suggested that when we have a family including the children and/or grandchildren that the $25 membership cover all of them starting with the 2010 dues A motion was made by Steve, seconded and carried.

Donna Waggener suggested we give each new member a welcome card to the club card (this would be besides the regular membership club card) She has volunteered to do this.

CLASS FOR CHILDREN: Ken Alvey said that he is thinking about a power carving class for children no younger than 10 years of age. He would like to start with 6. No date has been set. He is becoming a dealer for some of the power equipment, so the cost of the equipment to children in the class would be less than if they had to purchase it at retail

February: Sharpening by Dick Bitter and Steve Oliver
March: Seminar on drawing birds by Ken Alvey
April: Drawing and painting by Steve Eli
May: Dogwood pin by Donna Waggener
June: Whimisical House Bark Carving by Kerry Austin
