Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 7:33 p.m. by Neil Ward, President.
Minutes of previous meeting:
The minutes were distributed either by computer or the mail. There being no objections to the minutes, they were accepted as circulated.
Sister Anthony told the membership that Duty Lists for the Show were at the front table and asked members to take them. They will also be sent with these minutes. Members are asked to get a substitute if they cannot serve at the time given. We must have at least 3 persons at the door/or Carving for Charity table at all times.
Treasurer's Report:
Don Deutsch gave the report, which was accepted as presented.
Library Committee:
Kerry Austin said that he had nothing new to report except he would like to know what books or items the members would like to have in the Library. He reminded the members that we have yard signs to post for the Show.
Show Committee:
Neil reported that we now have 2 vendors. Mary Purtzer said that she has the ribbons and trophies for the show. She also thanked the members for the ornaments, which at this time seems to be enough, however she will accept more and asked those who still had some to bring them to the Show. We have one tree and three wreaths. Mary also thanked those who brought in lights for the tree.
We have five celebrity carvers whose carvings will be auctioned. They are: Marvin Daniels, Steve Brown, Sally Nye, Steve Oliver and Ken Alvey. We expect to receive something from Debbe Edwards who is also the show judge.
We will have a chain saw carver. He is James Taylor from Lewisport, KY.
We need to get a banner up at the Armory seven days before the Show. Steve Oliver has arranged for appearances on November 25 at 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. on Channel 7 and at 11:30 a.m. on Channel 14. Steve Oliver and Ken Alvey will appear on these TV shows. WIKY will interview them at 8 a.m.
The Boy Scouts will provide food. The Banquet will be held at Yen Ching. We will need a count by November 18. Anyone who does not like Oriental food may have a special dish (roast pork or chicken ) prepared by Amy but she must know ahead of time.
Old Business:
We will not have a regular meeting on December 8th. But we will meet at 6 p.m. at Seton Residence for our Christmas Party. Cost is $2.50 per person or $5. per couple. All are asked to bring a covered dish but nothing that needs refrigeration. The main entre'e will be fried chicken. Please let Sister Anthony know if you are coming to the party (812) 963-7600.
New Business:
The first new business consisted of a report from the Nominating
Committee. This committee consisted of Joel Slaton and Kerry Austin.
Joel Slaton gave the following slate of officers:Neil told the group that we will be expected to pay $25 more per meeting at the 4H Center for the use of our current room. In order meet this obligation we will need to have fifty-five paying members. We now have fifty-four. It is estimated that we will need many more members to pay this increase in rent. A motion was made, seconded and carried that beginning January 1, 2010 our dues will be $25
There was a long discussion about looking for another place within our budget. We need a place that is stable. The last time we moved we had several places to use which did not meet our needs and resulted in some members dropping out of the club. If necessary we will keep what we have while we are looking for a new place that meets our needs.
GUEST SPEAKER:
Neil arranged for Phyllis Like from Southwestern Indiana Respiratory Disease Program Screening to address the club about respiratory problems that can result from inhaling sawdust and/or other air problems. The speaker was able to do screening on any of the members who wanted to be screened.Seminars:
We will have a seminar in either March or April given by Marvin Daniels at Seton. The cost will be $65 for two days. The carving will mostly center on carving faces.
Half Pot:
The half pot was won by Dick Bitter.
Adjournment:
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
The next meeting, our Christmas Party is at 6 p.m. on December 8, 2009, at Seton Residence
Respectfully submitted:
Sister Anthony, Secretary
