MINUTES OF TRI-STATE WOODCARVERS' CLUB

September 8, 2009, 4 H Center

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by Neil Ward, President.

Minutes of previous meeting:

The minutes were approved as circulated.

Treasurer's Report:

Due to the absence of Don Deutsch, there was no treasurer's report this evening.

Library Committee:

Kerry is asking the members to give him a list of books they would like to see added to the Library.

Show Committee:

This committee met at Seton on Thursday, September 3, 2009

Neil reported that Boxes & Such, one of our vendors, will not be with us this year due to the opening of their new shop.

Peg Cawthorne will be coming to the Show. There will be an opportunity to get wood burning supplies from her.

Tickets for the show are available this evening. There are ten tickets to a book and the cost of a book is $20. For each book sold, the member will get one free table for the show.

Steve Oliver has made arrangements with T.V. Channels 7 and 14 to appear on their shows about a week before our Show. Ken Alvey volunteered to go with Steve.

Kathy Vonderahe reported that we need more carvings for "Carvings for Charity". She reminded the members that it is through this activity that we get the money for our Charity, The Easter Seals.

Steve Oliver will bring in a floor plan at the October meeting so that members can pick out their table for the Show.

We are also in need of ornaments for our tree and for the wreaths. Members are urged to bring them to our October meeting. We are going to use our October meeting to carve ornaments

Ken Alvey will make bumper stickers advertising the Show. Please bring in any lawn signs that you may have at home.

We are still deciding on a place for our carving show banquet. We are considering a Chinese restaurant. Neil asked for a show of hands of members who did not like oriental food. One member raised his hand. There will be a special meeting of the Committee to discuss this subject. Notices will be sent out.

Old Business:

Debbe Edwards asked what rough out the group wants to work on at her seminar. The rabbit was decided upon. This seminar will begin the Monday after our show. Debbe would like to get in 15 hours of carving. When we begin on Monday, November 30 at 6 p.m. we can decide as a group about the times. The reason for this is that Debbe would like to have each carver finish their carving.

New Business:

Steve Brown reported Renegade Round Up will be held in Lebanon, Tennessee October 26-30.

Next year War Eagle will be back in September. Dates are September 13-17 in Arkansas. We will probably get more information on this.

Seminar and presentation:

Our seminar this evening was presented by Steve Eli. It was on drawing. We also had a talk from the manager of Blick Store. She told us how we could get a discount from the store and the different things that they carried. She gave each member a bag of samples and catalogs from the store and also included a T shirt.

Guest:

This evening our guest was Jake Todd from Henderson. Jake is interested in carving spoons.

Adjournment:

The meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m. The next meeting is October 13. Show Committee meeting is October 8 at Seton beginning at 6 p.m.

Respectfully submitted:

Sister Anthony, Secretary
