MINUTES OF TRI-STATE WOODCARVERS' CLUB

August 13, 2019 4 H Center

Call to Order:

President Sherry Schaefer called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M.

Neil Ward brought a guest with him this evening and Sherry welcomed Phillip Adkins.

Minutes of previous meeting:

Minutes of July- Motion to approve by Jeff Hancock, seconded by Robin Meyer. Motion carried, minutes approved. Dan Aldredge won a prize for being the member that actually read the minutes and therefore was able to identify the magic word "Squash". Note to members- Do't mess with old people, especially old teachers!!!

Treasurer's Report:

Motion made by Jeff and seconded by Gene Sutton to approve the treasurer's report as given by Alan Bailey!

Library Committee:

Ben Meyer reported that the library was out and open and the box of ornaments was ready for use for tonight's carving project.

Show Committee:

Show Committee Update:

Show Committee met before tonight's club meeting with members present: Kathy V., Sherry S., Steve E., Jeff H., Jon G., Warren S.

*Steve tried to get our show dates on the Woodcarving Illustrated calendar and the dates were not in the newest magazine. Efforts will now be made to get our dates on the WCI Facebook page.

*Kathy is working on various aspects of advertising for the show. A tentative budget of $100 to $150 was suggested. A few advertising ideas were mentioned during open discussion during the meeting.

*Sponsorship levels were set: Bronze- $50- mentioned on Sponsor sign at the show Silver- $100- Yard Sign to be displayed at the show Gold- $250- 3'x5' banner either obtained by the club or provided by the donor.

Jeff will contact Ken Alvey about more yard signs, etc. Magic word Chicken Nuggets.

Jeff, Warren and Sherry are working on the floor plan layout for the show. It appears exhibitors may be limited to one table per exhibitor due to space limitations.

Count taken at the meeting appears we will have 10-12 members exhibiting. Table rent for members is $20, with electricity $5.00. Vendors fee is $30 per table.

Table reservation forms are available on the club's website. Club Member table rental is $20.00; electricity $5.00

New Business:

Sherry asked for volunteers to coordinate a nominating committee for the 2020 officers with the election scheduled for the November meeting. Sherry noted that she will not be running for re-election due to other commitments.

Elvin Reed brought a selection of wood and carving magazines for to give to anyone interested. Items remaining will be put in the library.

Seminars:

Mini-seminars scheduled:
August- group carving Christmas ornaments for door prize tree at the show.
September- group painting ornaments
October- Jeff Hancock- surprise carving???
November- Carving fishing lures with John Wilkinson
December-Christmas Party at Salem United Methodist Church

Half Pot:

The half pot was won by Ben Meyer- $16.50

NOTES: Alan and Angie Bailey's son, Elliot has returned home to continue further therapy and future surgeries. Continued thoughts and prayers will be appreciated.
