MINUTES OF TRI-STATE WOODCARVERS' CLUB

August 9, 2016 4 H Center

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 6:08 p.m. by Jeff Hancock, President.

Minutes of previous meeting:

Motion: To approve the minutes for July 12, 2016, meeting as posted on the Club's web site. Motion carried.

Treasurer's Report:

Don Deutsch gave the treasurer's report: Motion: To accept as presented. Motion carried.

Library Committee:

Library is Open. Kathy talked about items available in the Library.

Show Committee:

Sheri stated that Show Tickets have been printed and will be available at the September meeting. Ads for the Show Program need to be turned to Sheri by the September meeting. The President stated that printed forms are on the table in front of the Library to reserve a tables for the show and to register for carvings the woodcarving competition. Kathy spoke on the need for items for "Carvings for Charity" and that each club member should carve two Christmas Tree ornaments for the show. Ken Alvey will have the updates for the yard signs at the September meeting.

Old Business:

Name Tag Competition sponsored by Steve Eli: he explained how the voting would talk place. Joel Slaton won the $25.00 prize. President stated that we will return to meeting in the Banquet Hall next meeting, we will meet there the rest of the year.

The Steve Brown seminar has 3 open seats. Pat Moore's seminar is now full and has a waiting list. Steve Brown requested that those taking his seminar pick out the rough-outs they are carving. President passed printed copy of rough-outs he has: mark the ones you want with your name. Jeff will e-mail Steve the list.

Thursday Night Carving at Am-Vets will meet August 18, and September 15.

President reported on the Heritage Festival at the Pike County 4-H Fair held on Friday, July 15th and Saturday, July 16th.

New Business:

President met with Capt. Nunn at the National Guard Armory to reserve dates for the 2017 Show. We are penciled in for October 21 and 22, setup on Friday, October 20th.

President asked if there was any interest in participating in Art in the wild, Wesselman Woods Nature Center. Saturday, November 12, 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Jeff and Neil will attend.

Steve Eli explained the new process for Show and Tell: when a club member has a carving for show and tell they will go to the Library find their name card. Then place their item and name card on the display table for Show and Tell before the meeting starts.

Motion: To have an annual Name Tag Contest held in August, club will provide the prize for the winning entry. Made by Don Deutsch and second by Neil Ward. Motion carried. Steve Eli will draft the rules for the name tag contest.

August 9, 3D Pattern with Richard Hitch September 13, Relief Carving with Richard Hitch. October 11, Sharpening how to with Gene Sutton and Jeff Hancock. November 8, Round-table

Half Pot:

The half pot was won by Richard Hitch.

There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
